The Port Bruce Municipal Beach is unique in the sediment cell. The Township of Malahide made the decision years ago to allow the beach to naturalize with vegetation growth to promote dune formation. With community and municipal consultation, a plan was developed to follow the existing footpaths, provide protective fences to discourage any foot traffic on the sensitive grasses. Native dune grasses are vital plants to build and protect dunes by trapping blowing sand and anchoring loose ground with deep roots. The beach now has attractive access paths framed by dunes which will protect local homes, business and infrastructure from high water and storm surges.
