Throughout April and May of 2026, the Municipality of Central Elgin, the North Shore Resilience Project and Port Stanley Public School worked together on a municipal access improvement project at Erie Rest Beach. In conjunction with a drainage improvement project, Central Elgin also added several benches, relocated and upgraded bathroom facilities and installed walkway fencing. The Port Stanley Public School Grade 8 class spent the morning planting native beach grasses, which will help build dunes to protect the surrounding homes and municipal infrastructure from storm surges and flooding. The Erie Rest Beach Project is an example of community and municipal government working together on a project that provides aesthetic and practical improvements to municipal infrastructure through nature based solutions. A big thank you goes out to the Friends of Erie Rest Beach who supported this project from inception to completion.
