On July 2, 2025 informational signage was installed along the Austin Parkway Beach Access. This project is restoring protective sand dunes along the municipal access path, with the goal of reducing in blown sand to both the road and surrounding properties. The restored dunes will also build beach resilience and protect against storm surges and high-water levels. Three species of grass (Little Bluestem, Switchgrass and Great Lakes beachgrass) were planted earlier this spring and protected with a post and rope line that directs visitors to the beach.
The signage informs visitors that the plantings are a dune restoration in progress and directs them to remain on the marked path, as dunes are delicate ecosystems, sensitive to trampling. Thank you to LMP Excavation for their conscientious work on this project.
