Foredune Restorations

May 16, 2025
The North Shore Resilience team has been busy restoring foredunes on private property at Long Point and the municipal walkway at 53 Beach Avenue from May 8 to 12. The native plants used for the restoration include beachgrass, switchgrass, and little bluestem. All three grass species thrive in the dynamic coastal environment and help build beach resilience to future periods of high lake levels by trapping sand and building foredunes. New information signs are in production and will be installed soon directing beach visitors to ‘stay on the path’ and keep away from the ‘dune restoration areas’. The foredune restoration work will continue in the Fall of 2025 throughout the littoral cell from Port Glasgow to Long Point. Contact Sarah (conservation@longpointbiosphere.com) if you would like more information and to get involved.
